Hailed as” Ambassadors of Vocal Music” the Kenwood Academy Concert Choir is back by popular demand! This uplifting choir inspires the younger minds of today. Showing off their creativity under the direction of Richard Nunley, these skillful choristers perform a fascinating repertoire from classical and gospel to jazz and pop.

MICHAEL SALTER QUARTET - Tuesday, February 14, 2012

Quickly catching the attention of the Chicago music scene, this group draws on elements of acoustic jazz, rock and electronic music. Combining these elements while leaving space for structured and free improvisation allows these musicians to create a diverse yet seamless voice uniquely their own. The Quartet creates music that transcends genre while being intellectually stimulating and yet still connecting with the soul of the listener.

Flamenco is the heart of Spain. Raíces Gitánas, tells the story of the Spanish gypsies in movement and song. Through its fiery dance, guitar melodies, and pounding rhythms, the artists explore the hidden world of the colorful nomads who create this beautiful art, and reveal to us why this beautiful tradition is part of our own legacy as well.

RHYTHMUNITY ENSEMBLE - Tuesday, May 15, 2012

The presentation starts in West Africa, travels through North Africa and the Middle East to the Indian subcontinent, then to Cuba, and Brazil. The musicians play and demonstrate instruments from around the globe. In addition to explanations of instrument construction and playing technique, the ensemble shares with its audience unique cultural stories inherent to the indigenous instruments. The program’s focus on the connections between music, culture, language and geography creates a complete and profound learning experience for the audiences.
