Thursday, November 29, 2007 - BAROSSA WIND QUINTET
The Barossa Quintet’s all-new “Music Paints a Picture” program seeks to make classical music accessible to all. The group uses engaging musical examples to illustrate how music can paint a picture or tell a story in your mind, and how music has the power to affect your mood and your emotions. They also discuss their five instruments (flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, and horn) and offer fascinating insights into the world of professional music-making.

The Trio’s highly interactive and challenging program uses “popular” music to introduce students to “classical” music. These accomplished artists (violinist, cellist & pianist) will demonstrate to your students how “classical” music can be just as engaging and accessible as other types of music.

(piano, flute, oboe & violin)

The wind and string musicians will explore the expressive techniques of each instrument. A number of trios of different instrumentation will be presented, highlighting imagination and creativity in listening skills. The repertoire spans the history of western music, from early baroque through contemporary.

The 45th Edition of the Chicago Public Schools All-City High School Band offers an exciting mixture of music that is enjoyed by all. Making this exciting music are high school students representing middle and high schools from all over Chicago. Principal Conductor William B. McClellan and the staff of outstanding band directors are proud to present this program to you, our audience, to make your day full of joy and happiness.

Thursday, April 24, 2008 - DEBUT ORCHESTRA / CYSO
Come hear the classical music stars of tomorrow when the Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestras’ Debut Orchestra performs. Led by Maestro Terrance Oliveras Gray, Debut will perform works by Saint-Saens, Grieg, and Bizet. Debut Orchestra is one of four core ensembles that comprise the CYSO, an internationally renowned youth orchestral training organization known for its excellence in innovative programming and youth education.

Thursday, May 22, 2008 - QUINTET ATTACCA
Quintet Idol! seeks to bring the instruments of the wind quintet to life for school-age children. Each instrument will perform music that features its most interesting qualities. Musical selections include the Flight of the Bumblebee(flute), Maple Leaf Rag(clarinet), Under the Earth(oboe), Roaring Fork(horn), and Danza(bassoon). The program will introduce children to the facts about each instrument so they are ready to pick their favorite at the Quintet Idol competition!

Thursday, May 29, 2008 - ASHU
25-year-old concert saxophonist, Ashu, performs a diverse and engaging program with pianist Kuang-Hao Huang. Music will include works by Ibert, Piazzolla, Villa-Lobos, and Morricone. Ashu and Kuang-Hao have performed throughout the USA and Europe, including venues such as Carnegie Hall, and have both won numerous international and national competitions.
