Pianist David Shimoni has enjoyed a busy career as both
soloist and collaborative artist. Mr. Shimoni’s engagements in the
2008-2009 season include performances for the “On Wings of Song”
series of the Marilyn Horne Foundation, at the Italian Academy of Columbia
University, in the western United States for the Piatigorsky Foundation,
and at the Moab Music Festival with the New York Festival of Song.
As winner of the 2001 National Federation of Music Clubs’ Young
Artist Auditions, Mr. Shimoni has performed solo recitals throughout the
U.S. In previous seasons he has appeared in New York’s Weill Recital
Hall, Alice Tully Hall, 92nd Street Y, Kosciuszko Foundation, and Museum
of Modern Art. He has been a guest artist at the Chautauqua, Brevard,
Foothills, and Rockport music festivals and soloist with the Philharmonia
Northwest, International Chamber Ensemble of Rome, and Chappaqua Orchestra.
As a collaborative artist Mr. Shimoni has performed with the Jupiter String
Quartet, New York Festival of Song, and Toronto Dance Theatre. In June
2008, he performed a recital about the lives of artists Sara and Gerald
Murphy at the Dallas Museum of Art with Southeastern Festival of Song.
As a vocal accompanist he has also appeared on the Alice Tully Hall Vocal
Debut Recital awarded by the Juilliard School, Rockefeller University’s
Tri-Institutional Recital Series, and the Artist Series of Sarasota. He
has given educational and outreach concerts throughout the United States
in affiliation with the Piatigorsky Foundation and Astral Artistic Services
and has also performed for the charitable organization Sing for Hope.
Born in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, Mr. Shimoni attended the North Carolina
School of the Arts during high school and earned a B.A. in biology with
distinction from Swarthmore College. He subsequently received the Vladimir
Horowitz Scholarship to study at the Juilliard School, where he obtained
masters degrees in both solo and collaborative performance. In addition
to performing and teaching, Mr. Shimoni is currently a doctoral candidate
at The Graduate Center of the City University of New York. His principal
teachers have been Ilya Itin, Yoheved Kaplinsky, Edna Golandsky, Robert
McDonald, Brian Zeger, and Marc Durand.
